B I S M U T H

Physical: Brittle, crystaline metal with a white, pinkish hue. Bismuth is                    solid at room temperature.

Chemical: Bismuth is the most diamagnetic of metals and it has  a                           very low thermal conductivity. It has the greatest electrical                         resistnace when placed in a magnetic field (also known as                         the Hall effect).

  • Water: Reacts with water to form bismuthoxide at high temperatures.

  • Acids: Reacts with sulfuric, nitric, and hydrochloric acids.

  • Halogens: Reacts with halogens to form bismuthhalides.

  • Isotopes: Bismuth 209 is the only stable form of bismuth, there are 32 other                            unstable forms of it.

  • Flamability: Very high in it's powdered form.

  • Toxicity: Low for a heavy metal.
